David Williams


Position: CEO

Nationality: South African

David has worked for the Maersk Group for 24 years and has been in his current role as Head of the East & Central China cluster, since October 2012.

Having previously worked with Safmarine from 1986 to 1990, David re-joined the organisation in Johannesburg in July 1991. From 1997 to 2000, he worked in various sales and commercial roles in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Hamburg, Germany.

Since joining Maersk Line in Cape Town in August 2000, David has held positions as export trade manager, sales & marketing general manager, Namibia country manager (2005 to 2007) and Southern Africa Cluster manager.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of South Africa and has completed the Executive Development Program at the Graduate School of Business, University of Cape Town.

David is 50 years old, South African, married and has 2 children. When he moved to Shanghai, he realised that the nearest mountain biking trail was nearly five hours away. He’s now eagerly looking forward to getting back on his bike in Copenhagen and start training for competitive events.  If he seems testy during busy weeks, please excuse him. He claims he can get grumpy if he hasn’t had time to hit the gym atleast 4 times a week. On Friday evenings, he loves nothing more than pairing a robust Syrah with an artery-clogging pizza while watching a good movie. He loves being in Cape Town whenever possible because he can watch his son’s rugby games there.

Thomas Hansen

Position: Global Head of Sales and Customer Service

Nationality: Danish

Thomas rejoined Safmarine in 2013 after having previously worked for Maersk Line and the Maersk Global Service Centers. He started his career in the A.P. Moller-Maersk group in 2001, as a shipping trainee with Safmarine in Denmark. After 5 years with Safmarine he moved to India to join the Management Team of the Maersk Global Service Center in Pune. Thomas returned to Copenhagen in 2008 to join Maersk Line and has since then worked in various commercial management positions covering sales and customer service. Just before joining Safmarine he held the position of Global Head of Outsourcing for Maersk Line. On May 1st 2013 Thomas started in Safmarine as ‘Global Head of Customer Service’. From June 1st 2014 his responsibilities expanded to include the global sales organization, and saw him taking up the position as ‘Global Head of Sales and Customer Service’ for Safmarine.

Thomas is a graduate in Management from Aarhus University and holds a degree in shipping.

Thomas is happily married and proud father to a 7-year old boy and a 4-year old princess. Most of his free time is spent trying to avoid getting a drubbing from them at various games. 

Outside of the office, and weather permitting in Denmark, you’ll find Thomas donning lycra and pedalling away while leisurely taking in the scenic Danish countryside.

Stephen Brodie

Position: Head of Global Performance Management

Nationality: British

Having originally joined the Group in 1995, Stephen spent most of his early career working in the logistics side of the business in Customer-facing roles in the UK, West Africa, Denmark & USA. In 2003 he joined the Container Terminal Operator, Hutchison Port Holdings, working on a number of Strategic Port Development and Client Management projects, including driving the Port-centric Logistics concept in the UK.

In 2010 Stephen decided to return to Denmark with his Danish wife and three children, and at the same time took the opportunity to re-join the Maersk Group in the procurement function. Here he led the procurement initiative for APM Terminals in Europe and North Africa. After a short spell back in the logistics side of the business in 2012, Stephen joined the Safmarine family in December 2012.

Outside of work Stephen loves to spend time with his family and his 3 children keep him busy. He can usually be found in a Basketball Hall at the weekends - supporting and helping out, and even shooting the occasional hoop now and then.

Some of his favourite things are chainsaws, gloves, duct tape and a face-mask. But don’t get the wrong idea. He just loves to play handyman around the house. He has also threatened to play golf once his children are a little older.

Jeroen Schuering

Position: Head of Key Account Management

Nationality: Dutch

Jeroen joined Safmarine in 2012 after having previously worked for P&O Nedlloyd and Maersk Line. In 2002 Jeroen graduated with a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Business Economics from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, and thereafter started with P&O Nedlloyd as a Management Trainee. He worked in various commercial positions in Rotterdam, Buenos Aires, London and Hamburg before returning to Rotterdam in 2006 to join Maersk Line after the take-over of P&O Nedlloyd.

He then took on the role of Marketing & Communication Manager for Central Europe before working 6 months in a ‘Change management project team’ (Streamline). In 2009 he became Key Client Manager responsible for the US Military customer in Europe and Africa, and the retail customer ‘Procumulator/Maxeda’.

Jeroen then joined Safmarine in 2012 and became Cluster Manager for the Netherlands and Switzerland. On 1st September, 2014 Jeroen commenced his current role as ‘Global Head of Key Accounts’ for Safmarine, based in Copenhagen, Denmark. 

Joeren is currently enjoying his expanded family. The arrival of little Tom, a year back has brought him much joy and new skills. He has now learnt to sleep with one ear open to catch the ‘thunder down under’ that signals a 2am diaper change. Weekends are spent trying to teach 4-year old Emilie to swim and ride a bicycle. He’s eagerly looking forward to the day he can get back to his first and now almost forgotten love – field hockey.
