Al Sanea Chemical Products is a family-owned business run by Managing Director, Mr. Khalid Nasser Al-Sanea. The company started operations in 1977 in Kuwait with a white spirit (turpentine) manufacturing plant.

From a hundred drums per day capacity in 1981, today the company produces 1200 drums of white spirit a day. Along with this, they also produce dozens of varieties of chemical cleaners and  disinfectants.

Today, their customer base has widened to countries that include UAE, Sri Lanka, Kenya and Tanzania among others.

Al Sanea enjoys the clear benefits of working with Safmarine, which it relies on to ship around 90% of its exports. “As well as receiving a quality product, the on-time service from Safmarine has resulted in the return of old customers,” says Mr. Al-Sanea.

Mr. Mowaffy is the Export Sales Manager at Al-Sanea. Having tried many different carriers in the past, he is all too aware that late shipments can result in unhappy customers; customers who will take their business elsewhere. “With other carriers, fifteen days means a month. With Safmarine, fifteen days means fifteen days,” he says. 

Aside from on-time service, Mr. Mowaffy also enjoys the added advantage of being able to rely on Safmarine to provide assistance during challenging circumstances.

Elvis Pinto, former Safmarine Country Manager for Kuwait and Iraq, recalls: “One of Al Sanea Chemical Products’ customers wanted rates to a destination in India for 40-foot containers. The rates were high and the customer wanted to cancel the order. We advised the customer to use 20-foot containers instead. By coming up with an alternative and viable solution, we helped Mr. Mowaffy’s customer save a significant amount of money. This in turn helped Al Sanea Chemical Products to secure the order.”

Safmarine also helps resolve disputes – something that Mr. Mowaffy really appreciates. “One of my buyers in the UAE did not clear a shipment of 10 containers for 60 days, which resulted in a fee of 60,000 Kuwaiti Dinars,” explains Mr. Mowaffy. “They claimed that Safmarine had not informed them of the cargo’s arrival, but records showed this was not the case. Safmarine helped us to mitigate the fee to both parties’ satisfaction. And, to this day, shipments to this Al Sanea customer are still transported with Safmarine.”

The partnership between Safmarine and Al Sanea Chemical Products continues to grow stronger each year, with increasing volumes and an even greater level of trust. “If there is a problem, even if it’s the middle of the night, I know that I can rely on Safmarine to sort it out for me,” says Mr. Mowaffy. “This is reassuring and very important to me.”
